A place where you get drilled and shaped to think, learn and work like an adult?
Yesterday I made a mistake upon completion of the preliminary practical exercise.
Today, I didn't make any mistakes in the practical because I didn't even know how to complete the report.
How pracs are assigned in uni?
You arrive early or late, no one cares.
Remember to look for the lab assistant upon arrival if not you won't get your attendance ticked if he/she couldn't find you.
Wear lab coat and safety goggles by the time you place your first foot step into the laboratory.
The laboratory is huge until you can't find your way to your lab table unless you look at those papers stamped on each of them which indicate groups and experiment number.
Help yourself with the gloves at the lab reception counter. It's like the kind of pharmacy in a clinic but you can just go there to get a pair of gloves or ask questions.
Here's a cool thing, you get to listen and watch a video about some special techniques which are related your prac before you're given the green light to start. So, the lab will be filled with people wearing lab coats, safety goggles and pairs of huge headphones, staring at different tvs in the lab.
Oh and.. There're so many facilities, chambers or rooms until you won't even know where to go to look for appropriate materials and tools unless you check the info paper which I couldn't find it until someone pointed it to me today... lol... Weighing room, chemical room, huge fume chambers, oven, steam bath chamber bla bla bla.....
and there're so many aqueous substances which are colourless. I can just kill someone by telling them '' Hey, drink some water... ''
''Gulp, gulp, gulp.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa *white foams bubbling out from the mouth*.... ''
lol jokes....
Another thing is.. you're assumed to have a 100% or 99.99% of familiarity with the experiment that you're carrying out with your *instant* lab partner. The best way is to read, understand and complete the preliminary prac exercise before the day of the practical.
I DID... 22 pages (full page dictionary-sized words) of LAB MANUAL for EXPERIMENT 10..... which took me few hours camping in the library to understand it.
but things went so wrong that I can't produce and answer the report properly.
GOSH... I'll get my marks sliced like crazy this time.... plus the lab report must be handed in after you're done with your experiment... it's pretty reasonable since one practical session consists of 3 hours. duh... but for first timers.. a newb like me.. tends to mess things up a little bit... lol and the questions are all brain-storming... I felt so helpless in the lab today!!! no one is going to give a damn whether you can finish up your work or not.... =.= arrrrrggg....
Okay time is running out.. I should go and make myself a dinner and start doing schwork again... slacking is not an option.
I guess I shall not complain so much. Maybe it's time to grow up and deal with things maturely.. like an adult.. which the uni always emphasized:
'' We're treating you as an adult, so we're expecting you to.. bla bla bla... ''
